The PACA Warriors Varsity Basketball teams lost to the Chapel Trojans in a home game on Thursday, 25th of September, including a loss for both the girls and boys teams, in which missing key players were a major factor for the outcome of the games.
The Varsity girls played the first game and lost the first quarter. It was disappointing because their captain, Julie Perón, was not able to play due to an injury on her nose.
As the second quarter went on, the girls were having a difficult time to score. That was when Elisa Oliveira came off the bench and scored four points in less than two minutes. Which ended up being half of the points the girls scored that evening.
The third quarter didn’t make much of a difference for the PACA girls. But for the Chapel girls was their opportunity to up their score. The third quarter ended with Chapel making an impressive play for four points.
By the fourth quarter, the PACA girls were really low in points. They were already getting tired and many of them got hurt during the last quarter of the game.
The girls top scorer for the night, Elisa Oliveira, said, “I think we didn’t play well this game but we practiced a lot so now we can play better and win.”
The game ended with a disappointing score of 24-8 for Chapel. The team hopes that they can improve, learn from their mistakes and hopefully win the next games.
After the sad loss from the girls, the Warriors fans gathered to cheer and make some noise for the Varsity boys team as they started their game.
For the first quarter of the game the boys kept the game tied up with a score of 12-11 for the Chapel boys. Both teams started off strong with many offensive plays that led them to score a lot and have a really high score board.
By halftime, the Chapel boys were ahead of the PACA boys by five points. There was still room for the lead to switch sides and provide several tense moments in the game.
During the third quarter the PACA boys started having a turnover and scored many points. The Chapel boys were not that far behind them in scoring, but they still lost that quarter by 32-28 to the PACA boys. But little did the PACA boys know that they still had much to play and there was no time for early celebrations.
After an exciting fourth quarter, with PACA and Chapel fighting for the lead, the PACA boys unfortunately lost by 47-37.
It was a well played game from both of the teams and it really showed how quickly a game can turn around within a basketball game.
